NEGATIVE FUNDING RATE SCREENER

Negative funding is a condition, not a direction call.

Money Radar screens unusual Binance USDT perpetual markets without assuming that a negative funding rate means price must rise. It normalizes funding, adds short-term open interest, closed 15m structure, relative volume and mark/index basis, then ranks which markets deserve research attention first.

What negative funding tells you — and what it does not

On Binance USDT perpetual futures, negative funding generally means shorts pay longs at the funding event. That can reflect one-sided positioning or a derivatives dislocation, but the funding sign by itself does not identify the next price direction.

That is why Money Radar does not use a rule such as “negative funding = buy.” Funding is one factor inside a broader anomaly-ranking workflow.

Five observations in one ranked view

Normalized funding

Funding is converted to an 8-hour equivalent when settlement intervals differ so unusually negative contracts can be compared more consistently.

Short-term open interest

Recent OI change adds positioning context: is exposure expanding, contracting or barely moving around the same frozen reference time?

Closed 15m structure

The latest completed 15-minute bar provides price-structure context without relying on an unfinished candle.

Relative volume + basis

Volume is compared with the prior 20 completed bars and mark/index basis adds another view of derivatives dislocation.

Why this is different from sorting a funding table

A standard funding-rate table can tell you which contracts have the lowest current rate. Money Radar asks a different question: among unusual derivatives conditions, which markets are simultaneously unusual enough across funding, positioning, structure, participation and basis to inspect first?

The output is a research-priority score. Directional analysis and risk management remain separate decisions.
